On August 29, 2005 tropical cyclone, Hurricane Katrina, completely destroyed New Orleans and surrounding areas with 140-mile-an-hour winds and a two stories tall storm surge. Over 850,000 homes were destroyed and billions of dollars in property losses due to the devastating winds and water damage. At least 1,800 people passed away as a result of Hurricane Katrina’s lethal force making it the deadliest hurricane in the nation since the 1929 Okeechobee Hurricane. Overall, more than 90,000 square feet in several states felt the devastation in Katrina’s wake and for the past three years reconstruction, rebuilding and hope have marked the Gulf Coast area.
