Reach up to 120 to 150 feet tall and have a 6 foot wide trunk
A lovely large ornamental tree well suited for parks, golf courses, and large areas; can work effectively as a screen, in groupings, and in groves around streams and lakes
Deciduous tree – leaves fall in the cold temperatures
The leaves are opposite and are usually between 1-3 centimeters long
The cones between 1-3 centimeters in diameter and are arranged in opposite pairs in four rows.
The Metasequoia trees will mature in about 8-9 months after pollination.
The pollen cones are 5-6 mm long and are only produced on trees growing in regions with hot summers, such as New England.
Metasequoia trees are very versatile
in the fact that they can survive severe winters and heavy snowfalls in
Canada and can tolerate extremely hot temperatures like on the island of
Mainau where trees are found.
