Rhode Island waterways and research their negative effects on local ecosystems.

 

Introduction

·         What are exotic aquatic plants?

o   Plants that live in water, and are not native to the area.

·         How do they get brought to different areas?

o   Accidentally

§  Attaching to boats and trailers

§  Birds transport the seeds by mouth

o   Intentionally

§  Human beings transplant the species

·         How can exotic aquatic plants become invasive?

o   Do not allow the native plants to grow in the waterways

o   Become a nuisance for humans who want to use the pond or river for recreational activities

o   Prevent wildlife from feeding or living in the area
